at hammers ‘n’ tongs forge, i like working with materials that already have a story.

Old tools, worn-out steel, car springs, leaf springs, reclaimed timber and pieces of driftwood might have reached the end of their original working life, but that doesn’t mean they’re finished.

with a forge, a hamemer and a bit of imagination, i give them another chance.

From Scrap to something special

a discarded piece of steel isn’t alaways scrap.

a rusty car spring can become a beautiful kitchen knife.

an old tool can become something useful again.

a piece of driftwood can become part of a completely unique creation, i enjoy looking at something that most people would throw away and asking: “what could this become?”

that’s where many of my ideas start out.

Every piece has history

using reclained materials means that no two pieces are ever quite the same, the marks, textures, imperfections and charcter left behind by the material’s previous life become part of the finished piece.

i make it part of the design.

that’s particularly important with my hand forged kitchen knives, each knife is individually made, shaped and finished by hand, giving every blade its own character.
